KALISPELL, Mont. - It's been nearly 5 months since a new Cabela's Outpost store opened at the north end of Kalispell, so we checked in with neighboring Sportsman and Ski Haus to see if the competition has affected their sales.
The Kalispell Sportsman and Ski Haus is in the middle of a 20,000 square foot expansion expected to be completed in June. The added space will allow the store to add an archery department and a 3,000-square-foot golf department along with other improvements.
Store manager Kyle Joos tells us that Sportsman had a great winter with the heavy snowfall, and the addition of new stores like Cabela's even helped sales of outdoor equipment in all departments.
"We haven't seen any dip in sales because of Cabela's, but we didn't expect to. We figure with more traffic to the area it becomes more business for everybody. So we feel it's a great complement to our business and it brings more of a destination shopping area," says Joos.
Cabela's is the anchor of a rapidly growing retail complex that will soon include a MacKenzie River Pizza, Michaels Craft Store, and PetSmart, along with other retailers.
