Sunday marked day two of the skijoring competition at Whitefish's annual Winter Carnival. Skijoring is a winter extreme sport, in which a skier is pulled by a horseback rider around a track and over obstacles. The goal is to do it all in the shortest time.
NBC Montana caught a bit of the novice class on Sunday. The event took place at the Whitefish Airport.
The sport actually has roots at the Carnival dating back to the fifties, but it died down for a bit. Then, some folks in the Flathead got it back up and running.
NBC Montana spoke with one skier who gave the competition a go for the first time this year.
"I think just bringing people together, both cowboys and skiers, is pretty cool," said Whitefish resident Richard Laidlaw.
