MISSOULA, Mont. - Lake County officials say crews are searching for a man believed to have slipped and fallen in an area around the Selis Ksanka Qlispe Dam which was formerly known as Kerr Dam.
Officials said teams were searching the Flathead River below the dam.
Rescue teams report it happened early Wednesday afternoon and their top concern is how high, fast and cold the Flathead River is right now.
The man fell after climbing into a closed section of cliffs beyond the overlook railing, despite multiple signs warning of swift currents and steep, dangerous slopes.
Lake County Sheriff Don Bell says a helicopter was used in the search, and dam operators tried to reduce the flow of the river to help with rescue efforts.
The man's name has not been released.
We’ll continue to update you on the search.
