Man accused of random home invasion changes plea (11-14-12)

KALISPELL, Mont. - A California man accused of breaking into a Kalispell's family home and stabbing a man in the arm and mouth changed his plea in a Flathead courtroom on Wednesday.

Dante Kier had been initially charged with Attempted Deliberate Homicide, Aggravated Burglary, and Assault with a Weapon. He originally pleaded not guilty to all three offenses. On Wednesday he entered a plea to an amended information alleging Attempted Mitigated Deliberate Homicide. 

Kier entered a plea of guilty by way of Alford but mentally ill to the amended attempt charge.  The judge accepted his plea and set a sentencing date for December 6.

Investigators say Kier broke into a family's house back in December, and stabbed a father with a steak knife. According to court records, Kier said he intended to kill the man and that it felt good. The man's wife was in the home during the attack, and called police. 

In court on Wednesday, Kier requested to apologize to his victims.

"I wish that I could take everything back but I can't and I'm sorry for all who are involved," said Kier.
