A man who grew up in Bigfork will play a role in President Obama's inauguration on Saturday. NBC Montana is told that US Navy Lt. Commander Christian Downward was chosen by the Navy as a way to honor his extensive military service.
Downward was selected to help coordinate military personnel participating in the event. That involvement typically includes color guards, musicians and marching bands.
According to DVIDS (Defense Video and Imagery Distribution System), the US Armed Forces have been an active participant in presidential inaugurations since 1789, when soldiers helped escort George Washington to his ceremony in New York City.
