A Kalispell nonprofit will go before the planning board Tuesday night for the conditional use permit necessary to build a new shelter for women and children.
A Ray of Hope has plans to build the shelter on 5th Ave West across the street from their current offices that house a thrift shop and a shelter for men and women.
An existing home on the donated parcel of land would be demolished this summer to make way for the new construction starting in the fall if all goes according to plan.
The shelter would serve women and children needing a safe place and a helping hand to get out of homelessness or escape abuse.
Trustee Chris Trussell tells us the need in Kalispell is great.
"In this area, even in our beautiful little slice of Montana here in Kalispell, the need to escape from domestic violence, drug addiction, that kind of stuff is just huge, and there's a huge need for another place like the women's shelter at A Ray of Hope," says Trussell.
