KALISPELL, Mont. -

Four months from Election Day Kalispell already has a favorite in the city's mayor's race -- in fact, he's the only candidate on the ballot.

With filing deadlines come and gone, Mark Johnson is the only candidate on the ballot.

Johnson is a Whitefish native with a degree in accounting from Gonzaga University.  He currently works at Merrill Lynch in Kalispell.

Johnson told us today that he's surprised to be the only candidate, but he's ready to open a new chapter for his life.

"Almost kind of a letdown that we didn't have to run the campaign,” said Johnson.  “But then that quickly gave way to a little excitement.  Now I can focus for six months…so I can step into the shoes of (current mayor Tammi Fisher's) office and step right in for an easy transition of government.”

Johnson told us one of the first things he hopes to accomplish as mayor is improving the downtown Kalispell area, and city parks.
