Police in Billings continue to investigate a weekend shooting that left a 17-year-old boy hospitalized in intensive care.
Lt. Kevin Iffland says the victim and the 17-year-old suspected shooter were found in a field near an apartment complex shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday. The victim had a .22-caliber gunshot wound to his chest and was taken to Billings Clinic.
The Billings Gazette reports the alleged shooter appeared in District Court Monday for a detention hearing. He was ordered held at Youth Services on $25,000 bond.
Prosecutors say they intend to charge him as an adult with assault with a weapon and criminal endangerment. He turns 18 in April.
Prosecutors say the teens are friends and had been drinking alcohol. Officials say the gun was stolen from a vehicle.
