Judge sets $100,000 bail for woman accused of starting fire in hospital bathroom
A woman from Walla Walla, Wash. faced a Missoula judge Monday after prosecutors say she started a fire in a hospital bathroom.
Court documents say Rachel Beatrice Thompson was driving on Interstate 90 Saturday, when a Missoula County Sheriff's Deputy pulled her over for swerving on the road.
Thompson allegedly told the deputy the man in the passenger seat punched her in the stomach and she was in pain. The deputy said he took the woman to the hospital to get a blood test after he noticed she had signs of methamphetamine use.
According to the complaint Thompson refused the test, but asked to use the bathroom in the Emergency Room at St. Patrick Hospital. Nurses unlocked the door after Thompson had been in there for a while and found Thompson had allegedly started a fire in the bathroom with a lighter.
Deputies say she told them she was trying to kill herself.
In Missoula County Justice Court Monday bail was set at $100,000.
