Hunting group kicks in cash for wolf management
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation has donated $25,000 to Montana's wildlife agency to help cover its wolf management costs.
The Missoula-based hunting group says the donation will allow Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks to expand the number of wolves that are fitted with research collars. That includes wolves in areas where elk and deer herds have suffered since the predators were restored to the Northern Rockies region over the past two decades.
The group says that will help wildlife officials understand where wolves live and how many animals are in individual packs.
The elk foundation says it has given more than $400,000 for wolf research and management.
