NBC Montana salutes a well known former Missoula police officer and his family.

Hundreds came to pay respects at a memorial for former Missoula assistant police chief Lee Meltzer.

The veteran officer and former state crime lab worker died last week while fishing on the Clark Fork River.

Friends and family remember Lee as happiest when he was fishing and with his family.

A police honor guard gave a final farewell to the 64 year old Missoula native.
