HAVRE, Mont. -

A 45-year-old Havre man is charged with shooting his brother to death during an argument at their mother's house.

The Havre Daily News reports Hill County prosecutors filed the deliberate homicide charge Wednesday against Shane Johnson for the Nov. 9 shooting death of 43-year-old Travis Johnson. Shane Johnson is scheduled to appear in District Court on Nov. 27.

Charging documents say an autopsy found Travis Johnson was shot twice in the head, both at close range. The fatal shot was fired less than an inch from his face.

Shane Johnson told investigators the shooting was in self-defense after Travis Johnson broke his nose.

Shane Johnson was released from Department of Corrections supervision last year for a 2003 burglary conviction and a 2004 conviction for threatening a prosecutor in another case.
