BILLINGS, Mont. -

A Hardin man is facing a federal second-degree murder charge in the stabbing death of a St. Xavier man whose body was found at a fishing access site on the Bighorn River south of Hardin.

The Billings Gazette reports 40-year-old John Harold Holds III made an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Billings on Tuesday. U.S. Magistrate Carolyn Ostby granted a prosecution request to seal the affidavit supporting the charge.

Prosecutors allege Holds killed 42-year-old Franklin Red Wolf. Red Wolf's body was found at about noon Saturday at the Two Leggins access area by the site's caretaker. Big Horn County Deputy Coroner Robbie Seykora said Red Wolf was stabbed to death.

Holds remains in custody. Prosecutors have 30 days to present the case to a grand jury for indictment.
