VICTOR, Mont. -

The state Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks plans to put up more signs to warn floaters on the Bitterroot River about a diversion dam that has proven dangerous, and most recently, fatal.
A 6-year-old Washington state girl drowned at the site last Sunday when the drift boat she was riding in was caught in the backwater of the diversion dam and the riders were thrown in the water.
Fisheries manager Pat Saffell says the agency has ordered additional signs to warn floaters of the dangers and to portage around the dam. There already are some signs in the area, but the grandfather of Joslyn Farrell says they did not give his son enough warning to find a place to get out of the water.
