HELENA, Mont -

The deputy director of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor assault.

44-year-old Mike Volesky reportedly made the plea Friday in Helena.

Volesky was cited after police say that an Aug. 22 Volesky punched a man who made a derogatory comment about a woman accompanying the deputy director at the Downtown Walking Mall in Helena.

Police say the 36-year-old man declined medical treatment at the scene.

Volesky became the deputy director in June 2012.
