Police are still investigating a quadruple murder-suicide that happened in Deer Lodge on Sunday. Officials said a man shot and killed his wife and their three children before taking his own life.
Detective Steve Barclay said the man shot his wife and 1-year-old child inside, then went outside and shot the 4- and 6-year-old children.
They said he then carried the bodies of the children inside and laid them down on a bed, before setting fire to the house, lying down with the kids and killing himself.
No names have been released because police are still trying to notify the next of kin.
A close family friend who didn't want to be identified said she is still trying to grieve their loss. "I just can't make sense of it. I just want everyone to know that they were a solid family and a family that could be respected and should be respected and had everything going in the right direction."
Officials said they believe the family lived in the cabin for about three years.
