BOZEMAN, Mont. -

Backcountry enthusiasts took advantage of new snow at Bridger Bowl, well before the official start of the season.

Folks with the ski hill say they got between three to five inches overnight, spurring backcountry skiers and snowboarders to get a head start.

We spoke to one couple who tells us this is their second time on the mountain and say, there's definitely more coverage than the last.

While folks with Bridger Bowl say they're still a couple feet away from what's ideal to open, folks hitting the backcountry say they're excited to make a few turns and get a little exercise.

But they're still taking the appropriate preseason precautions.

"Aside from looking out for buried obstacles, we always carry a beacon, shovel and probe and we'll check out the snow structure before we ski anything," says skier Corey Fish.

Bridger Bowl's projected opening day for the 2013-2014 season is December sixth.
