A former Anaconda-Deer Lodge County commissioner who was convicted of two felony sex crimes against a child has been sentenced to 25 years in prison and must serve at least 10 before being eligible for parole.

The Montana Standard reports 53-year-old Robert Pierce of Opportunity was sentenced Tuesday in District Court in Anaconda.

In April, a jury found Pierce guilty of sexual intercourse without consent and sexual assault. Prosecutors said the girl was molested between 2006 and 2008 and reported it to authorities in 2012. Pierce has maintained his innocence.

Pierce was sentenced Tuesday to 40 years in prison with 15 suspended for rape and a concurrent 25 years for sexual assault.
