LOLO, Mont. -

The proposed Bitterroot Resort has taken another hit.

Both the Bitterroot and Lolo National Forests have rejected Tom Maclay's latest plans to construct his dream resort on Forest Service land.

It's been rejected by the Forest Service before, but before the Maclay family ranch would have served as a base.

The Forest Service said Maclay's latest proposal to build the ski area on Forest Service land is "not consistent with the initial screening criteria."

NBC Montana took the picture seen in this story on Maclay's ranch back in 2007. The ranch has since been foreclosed.

For years, supporters have promoted Maclay's Bitterroot Resort idea as a boon to the local economy.
