MISSOULA, Mont. -

Firefighters from around Montana descended arrived to Missoula on Saturday to take part in the first day of the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge.  The event was founded more than 20 years ago, and aims to showcase and encourage fitness among the national firefighting community.

Missoula’s regional event is estimated to draw up to 175 competitors. Pine Street between Ryman and Higgins will stay closed through the weekend, as the event is under way.

In 1997, the Missoula Fire Department and the Missoula Rural Fire District teams won the World Championship, and the Missoula Fire Department walked away with the team title as well in 2001.

According to the event’s website, the Missoula team won the team event on Saturday.
