FROMBERG, Mont. -

Fire destroyed a popular and historic bar and museum in Fromberg.

Assistant Fire Chief Mike Ventling says the fire appeared to have started in the chimney of the Little Cowboy Bar and Museum at about noon Wednesday. The business was not open and no one was inside.

It took Bridger and Fromberg fire crews about two hours to extinguish the fire.

Lost in the fire were thousands of items in the museum, many donated by local residents. In 2006, The Billings Gazette reported the eclectic collection ranged from Native American artifacts, belt buckles, old firearms, news clippings and photographs and two buffalo fetuses preserved in alcohol.

The bar was named the best bar in Montana by Esquire magazine in 2007.
