KALISPELL, Mont. -

A car accident west of Kalispell has left one woman dead.

Dispatchers first heard about the accident around 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, and first responders arrived on scene shortly thereafter.

Montana Highway Patrol has told NBC Montana traffic was down to one lane while officers cleaned debris from the road, which caused delays and slowdown.

"She overcorrected," said Jerril Ren of Montana Highway Patrol.  "She came back on to the road, overcorrected a second time.  The vehicle then began to go or enter into a side slide."

The investigation is ongoing, and Montana Highway Patrol has not yet determined whether speed or alcohol were a factor.
