MISSOULA, Mont. -

An apartment complex burst into flames this afternoon, launching flames nearly 40 feet into the air.

Eyewitnesses tell NBC Montana that the fire started around 3:30 p.m. in a third-floor apartment off East Broadway.

It appears that two apartments have been destroyed.

Our reporter indicates the smoke is very thick and officials are trying to get control of the traffic.

Our cameras caught the action as firefighters rescued a dog from an upper floor apartment and returned it to the owner who was waiting nearby.
