MISSOULA, Mont. -

On Tuesday, crews ramped up demolition efforts at the old K-Mart building on Brooks in Missoula, after they obtained a general demolition permit from the city. The efforts will reportedly make way for a Cabelas branch, and a Kohls department store branch.

According to a memorandum of support from the Missoula Redevelopment Agency, the total project cost is estimated at about $24,500,000. The movement at the site is welcome news for many nearby businesses.

“I think it will bring people in and just help with our business…If someone goes to Cabelas and shops…they have to eat somewhere,” said Cory Gleed, a general manager at Jaker’s restaurant.

“[What] we’re looking forward to is people going in there, doing their shopping and coming back and having a bite to eat on one of our decks,” said Bill Nance, a casino manager at the nearby Paradise Falls restaurant and lounge.

According to the MRA memorandum, there’s also a building that will be split up into two smaller spaces, though there’s no word on what exactly would go into that area.
