BUTTE, Mont. -

A 28-year-old Deer Lodge man has denied playing a role in the shooting death of a Butte man in August.

Juan Romero pleaded not guilty Thursday to deliberate homicide by accountability and tampering with evidence.

Co-defendant Jeffery Lackman is charged with deliberate homicide in the Aug. 5 shooting death of 46-year-old Mark Partelow.

Witnesses said Lackman was arguing with Partelow's girlfriend and Partelow was shot in the face when he stepped in to break up the fight.

Prosecutors say Romero helped Lackman flee and hide the gun.
