GOLD PAN FIRE
MISSOULA, Mont. -

NBC Montana checked the latest reports and found flames picked up earlier Wednesday with the Gold Pan fire moving northwest, into the Magruder Corridor.

Parts of that corridor are closed.

Fire crews are protecting the historic Magruder Ranger Station with a sprinkler system, and heat protective wrap.

The "Hells Half Lookout" is also protected with heat protective wrap.

Fire officials told us they are paying close attention to weather forecasts.

"Because the inversion has lifted,"  public information officer, Dixie Dies said in an interview about 3 p.m. on Wednesday, "That's when our winds normally come up, with predictions to get some storms this afternoon (Wednesday). Rain, maybe some lightning. Our crews are out there," said Dies," We've got helicopters and so far we're able to keep the fire within the Magruder Road boundary."
