City supports slower speeds through deadly road

Vehicles will have to stay off the gas pedal on Missoula's Mullan Road.

Tonight, the Missoula City Council supported a 35 mile-an-hour speed limit from Broadway to Reserve on Mullan.

The limit used to be 45 miles an hour but transportation officials temporarily reduced that after Hellgate High Senior Chance Geery was hit and killed last spring.

Geery's loved ones urged the city to keep speeds down on that stretch.

Tonight's approval is for a recommendation to the Montana Transportation Commission to permanently leave the speed limit at 35 miles-an-hour from Broadway to Reserve on Mullan Road in Missoula.
