MISSOULA, Mont. -

Missoula County prosecutors will be seeking some advice in whether to charge a 21-year-old Missoula man with shooting and killing an acquaintance.

A coroner's inquest is scheduled for Oct. 14 in the Aug. 18 death of 23-year-old Chad William Goodman Jr.

Jurors will be presented with the facts from the investigation.

Deputy County Attorney Jason Marks said Tuesday that if jurors determine the shooting was a criminal act, his office likely will charge the shooter with negligent homicide. If they determine it was an accident, no charges will be filed.

Missoula Detective Sgt. Scott Pastian said there was no indication of an altercation between the men. Pastian said the man who fired the gun told officers he didn't know it was loaded.
