HELENA, Mont. -

The restoration of a 99-year-old organ in Helena will be celebrated with a concert at the Ming Opera House in Helena.

The Independent Record reports (http://bit.ly/1lGfrXB ) that the organ installed by George Hutchings and Company of Boston in 1915 is one of only three such Hutchings instruments remaining in the northwest.

The Organ Historical Society says the organ is of "exceptional historic merit."

Local organists will play the instrument during an event on Thursday called "Music at the Ming."

Organist Joe Munzenrider says the instrument offers a window into a particular moment of American society when organs became popular fixtures.

The organ has 1,333 pipes plus bellows and ductwork.
