Kalispell, Mont. -

The Columbia Falls Police Department took nine local children shopping at Target in Kalispell for the holidays as part of their 10th annual Shop With a Cop event.

The Columbia Falls School District helps identify kids in need and relays that information to the police department. Money for the event is raised primarily at an annual concert that will take place this season in January in Columbia Falls.

Super 1 and Target also partner with the Columbia Falls police for the event. Super 1 will provide all nine children and their families with a Christmas dinner.

Five officers brought the children to the Target in Kalispell where they let the children shop for the things they wanted and needed, from snow pants and gloves, to toys and games.

Detective Hughes told us that he is happy that the police department can do one more thing to help out the community.

"Part of our job that we do is educating you know the public, helping the public, this is just another form of helping the public. These are people in need, and so we're able as a police association to take the donations and money and give back to the community to help everybody out." says Steve Hughes.
