GREAT FALLS, Mont. -

The Cascade County deputy who was struck and killed during a pursuit has been identified as a 33-year-old former Marine who served in Afghanistan.

Sheriff Bob Edwards said Friday Joe Dunn was hit by a vehicle on U.S. 87 near Belt.

County Attorney John Parker identified the suspect in Dunn's death as Adam Sanchez of Great Falls. He has not been charged.

Edwards says Dunn had been with the force for nearly 2 ½ years.

Great Falls police are leading the investigation. The state Department of Justice declined the case because a state trooper was involved in the pursuit. The Montana Highway Patrol is part of the department.

Few details have been released about the pursuit, which started in Belt and ended in Black Eagle.
