BOZEMAN, Mont. -

NBC Montana confirmed that police shot a dog in the Peet's Hill area Thursday morning.

The dog belonged to a Seattle resident staying in Bozeman.

Initial reports indicate the dog survived the shooting, but the owner told us it had to be put down because it had a broken back.

We are told any time an officers fire a weapon an internal investigation is opened for the incident.
