Boys & Girls Club of Missoula hold annual playhouse auction
The Boys & Girls Club of Missoula held its 11th annual playhouse auction fundraiser at the Southgate Mall in Missoula Thursday evening.
We were there while dozens of folks lined up to bid on locally made, hand-built playhouses, dog houses and even a chicken coop.
This year’s event featured four playhouses, three dog houses, one chicken coop and other smaller auction items.
We talked to Jose Diaz the Director of Development for the Boys & Girls Club of Missoula County and he tells us the playhouse auction fundraiser is key in keeping the Boys & Girls Club afloat.
Diaz says Missoula has four club sites where kids can go to do homework, play sports and have fun, while in a safe environment.
“I know for me I'm from Harlem, New York and there weren’t a lot of places where my mom felt comfortable with me going,” he said. “The Boys & Girls Club was one of them because they had that reputation of being well provided for and everything and Missoula does the same thing for kids here.”
Diaz tells us he's proud of all the local businesses who donated money, time and effort into build the playhouses. He says the community support has been great and he's glad that even the kids are getting involved.
“Sometimes they even help us raffling tickets at the market and stuff like that so there is actual involvement from the kids which I think is really cool,” said Diaz. “No one puts them up to that they just get really excited about the playhouse auction and want to be involved and I think that's really neat.”
The playhouse auction wrapped up this Thursday evening. Diaz tells us each year the auction brings in an average $30,000 for the Boys & Girls Club and he says he’s hopeful they will meet the mark again this year.
