Montana Highway Patrol told NBC Montana there is evidence that seven of the nine passengers were not wearing seat belts in the I-90 crash near Alberton early Monday morning. A 3-month-old baby was strapped into a carseat and was unharmed.
Missoula Rural Firefighter,Cooper Berry said they don't recommend a particular carseat over any others, because anything on the shelf has to be approved by the National Highway Traffic Administration.
"Anything that's on the shelf that meets certain criteria, certain brands have bells and whistles, but anything it's like a bike helmet it has to meet certain criteria," said Berry.
The Rural Fire District said the sticker on the side of the carseat helps with installation questions. The information on the sticker includes height and weight requirements and the date it was manufactured.
The district offers car seat installation appointments on the 2nd Saturday of each month. They are free of charge. To schedule an appointment please call Rural Fire's main station at 549-6172.
