BILLINGS, Mont. -

An autopsy confirms that a Yellowstone County jail inmate died last week from hanging in an apparent suicide.

Sheriff Mike Linder tells The Billings Gazette (http://bit.ly/11EJAhP ) an autopsy on Monday confirmed the cause of death of 34-year-old Steven Tyler Russo of Billings.

Linder says jail officers found Russo in the shower Thursday afternoon unresponsive and unconscious, having used clothing to hang himself.

Officers administered first aid, but Russo died shortly after arriving at Billings Clinic.

Russo had been booked into jail on June 5 on felony charges including burglary, theft, obstructing and resisting arrest.

Linder says a coroner's inquest will be conducted, but a date hasn't been set.
