YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. -

Mark Carman has been sworn in as the new U.S. magistrate judge for Yellowstone National Park.
    
Carman was sworn in this week after being selected by the Wyoming District Judges following an application and interview process.  He will reside in Mammoth Hot Springs.
    
Carman is only the fifth judge to occupy the Yellowstone Park judgeship, which was established in 1894.
    
He succeeds the late Judge Stephen Cole, who served for 31 years until his retirement last May.
    
Carman received his law degree in 1981 from the University of Wyoming. During his legal career he has worked as a prosecuting attorney in Casper and in California. He recently ran a private law firm in Billings, Mont.
    
He has been admitted to the practice of law in Wyoming, Montana, California and Colorado.
