A minivan rear-ended a semi tractor-trailer on an Interstate 90 off-ramp in Billings and caught fire, causing injuries that killed the 43-year-old woman driving the minivan.
Police say the Billings woman died Tuesday evening at St. Vincent Healthcare from injuries suffered in the crash on the South 27th Street exit. Her name was being withheld until family members could be notified.
Police Sgt. Matt Brewer said a 52-year-old Fromberg man driving a tractor-trailer belonging to Yellowstone County was coming to a stop on the off-ramp when the minivan struck the trailer just before 5 p.m.
An off-duty sheriff's deputy saw the crash and used a fire extinguisher from his vehicle to put out the fire.
