The Whitefish City Council is expected to vote Monday on whether to extend a committee that's been searching for a suitable location for a new cemetery.
The Flathead Beacon reports (http://bit.ly/14yBVlf) that the current cemetery started in 1917 has no more room and recent burials of community members have been in cemeteries miles away from Whitefish.
The committee has been looking for two years for a new location for a cemetery but hasn't been successful.
The committee came up with two sites, one of them south of a wastewater treatment plant near the Whitefish River and another near the Public Works Department shop.
But experts say the water table at both sites is too high to accommodate burial vaults.
