Warming center to get a new home
Folks with Bozeman's Human Resource Development Council are preparing a new facility for their warming center.
They housed the warming center at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds for the past two years but knew it was only temporary.
Their new facility at Griffin and Industrial is around 2,500 square feet larger.
It will offer more restrooms, separate spots for sleeping folks and those who are awake and secure areas for women and families to sleep.
"A lot safer, as well. We want to provide a safe, warm place to sleep and so, it will make it much easier to do that with expanded space," says Human Resource Development Council's Heather Grenier.
Several changes are in order to the new space. HRDC will tear down walls and add walls to make the family and female sleeping spaces more secure. They'll also add restrooms, egress windows and change out heat sources.
Grenier says if the new spot isn't ready by their opening date of November 15th, they will use the fairgrounds until it's ready.
Folks with the HRDC say they hope to find another use for part of the space to help offset cost. If not, they'll have the option of expanding in the future, if necessary.
They're also set to hold a fundraiser November 10th to help cover costs of the lease.
They didn't have to pay rent at their last location.
