A 32-year-old Missoula man charged with killing a Dixon man and slashing his wife's throat during a drug-fueled rampage told investigators he stabbed the man repeatedly and beat him with a rifle "because he would not die."
Nathan Lee William Calvert is charged with deliberate homicide in the death of Doug Morigeau and attempted deliberate homicide in the injuries suffered by Cheryl Morigeau on Dec. 6.
Sanders County prosecutors allege Calvert smoked synthetic marijuana or "spice" at his sister-in-law's house near Dixon for nearly two weeks before he and another man went looking for cigarettes. That man said Calvert stabbed him in the back that night.
Calvert told investigators he was hearing voices and hallucinating and did not know why he killed Morigeau.
