Verizon Wireless launched its 4G LTE wireless data service in 33 new markets Thursday, including three Montana cities.
Bozeman, Kalispell and Missoula are now on the list with 336 other markets nationwide that have 4G coverage.
“We want to take care of our customers. Our goal is to have all of our 3G network turned to 4G by the end of 2013. And we were very excited to get it in Missoula, Bozeman and Kalispell,” said Missoula store manager Christy Schilke.
So what’s it mean for cell users? People with 4G devices on the Verizon network will get speeds up to 10 times faster than before, and more coverage areas. Verizon reps tell us that since not all areas of the state are covered with the 4G, devices will automatically connect to 3G networks when their in an area without the 4G network.
“It was a large investment. And this is something our Montana customers have been asking for,” Schilke said. “Verizon feels that it’s worth the investment.”
Here’s a list of the coverage areas from Verizon:
Bozeman – Including the Montana State University campus and along I-90 east to Exit 313 and west to Exit 298. Coverage will extend west of Hwy 191 to the intersection of Jackrabbit Lane and the Bozeman Mall. Coverage includes the city of Livingston.
Kalispell – Downtown Kalispell and along Hwy 93 north to include Whitefish and south towards the intersection of Lower Valley Road. Service will also extend north along Hwy 2 to the intersection of SR40.
Missoula – Including the University of Montana campus and along I-90 east to Exit 107 and west to Exit 96. Coverage will extend south on Hwy 12 to the intersection of 39th Street.
