News came as a surprise out of the Vatican this morning.
The Vatican says 85-year old Pope Benedict will resign on February 28th.
Benedict reportedly announced his decision during a meeting of Vatican cardinals this morning, saying he didn't feel he could carry on the job.
The last pope to resign was in 1415.
The move sets the stage for a conclave to elect a new leader of the Catholic church.
