BILLINGS, Mont. -

Officials plan this summer to start building a trail to link Red Lodge to a ridge of prominent limestone outcrops.

The Billings Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/WgzUV8) that Beartooth District Ranger Traute Parrie last week signed off on construction of the Palisades Trail.

The trail will connect the north edge of federally owned land to the Palisades Campground and Willow Creek Trail to the south.

Tom Kohley helped craft the city's comprehensive trails plan.

He says the trail will be part of a 7.7-mile city-to-mountain loop for mountain bikers, hikers and horseback riders.
