Town prepares for New Year’s tradition
Folks around Western Montana are getting prepared to leap into icy waters to ring in the new year. That’ll happen on Tuesday at the Polar Bear Plunge in Woods Bay, just south of Bigfork.
Swarms of revelers fill up the streets each year and take a dive into the cold waters of Flathead Lake. This will be the nineteenth year, and NBC Montana was on hand last year when the air was a brisk 33 degrees.
One staff-member at a nearby motel tells NBC Montana the event quadruples their business each year.
“It brings people from all over the Valley all together, and they do their New Year’s resolutions,” said Carrie Anderson of the Islander Inn.
The event is held on the shores of the Raven restaurant and starts at 2:00 pm on the dot.
