A Custer County District High School student has been charged with criminal endangerment after allegedly taking a loaded handgun to school.
Justice Court records say 18-year-old Clint Leroy Parsons initially denied having a weapon Monday. The court documents and a police statement say Parsons later acknowledged bringing the .22-caliber gun for protection as a result of recent school shootings.
Parsons appeared before Justice Court Judge Don Neese Tuesday for an initial hearing and posted $4,500 bail.
A preliminary hearing will be held in district court Feb. 21.
Miles City Unified School District Superintendent Keith Campbell says Parsons has been suspended from school.
The Miles City Star reports the district will hold a hearing next week to decide whether to expel him.
