State agencies are proposing to buy a combined 4,500 acres of ranchland near the U.S.-Canada border.
The Great Falls Tribune (http://gftrib.com/W18ire ) reports Fish, Wildlife and Parks would buy 2,992 acres 42 miles northwest of Havre for $4.7 million.
FWP says the acquisition would allow floating and fishing on the Milk River and maintain a wildlife corridor between the United States and Canada.
The Department of Natural Resources and Conservation is proposing to buy 1,513 acres 27 miles north of Lingham for $1.1 million.
That land would be added to the state's 5.3 million acres of school trust land and would be leased for grazing to the current owner.
The land is owned by Aageson Grain and Cattle.
The State Land Board will vote on the proposals Monday.
