KALISPELL, Mont. -

Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but what about a 12 karat tanzanite ring on display at the Smithsonian?

Jewelry designer Mark Schneider stopped in Kalispell today to design pieces for anyone looking to revamp their gems and jewels. Schneider is one of the few living designers to have a ring on display at the Smithsonian. He says he loves to tell a story with his pieces.

"I enjoy the challenge of taking someone else's jewelry and creating something that revitalizes it. Takes it out of their jewelry box as something they can wear and enjoy," said Schneider. "In that particular case its more of a collaboration with myself and what the client's wishes are."

Schneider is also the recipient of 29 Spectrum awards, considered the Oscars of the jewelry world.
