The Missoula City Council is looking for answers on how to pay for sidewalks. Monday night was the public's chance to speak, but after months of study the council still needs more time.
Council and community members discussed different proposals for how to pay for sidewalks.
In one model the city would pay the first $500 dollars. Then property owners would pay up to $3500 dollars, anything beyond that the city would cover.
In another model the property owner would pay the first $500 dollars. Then the city would pay 70 percent of the cost, while property owners paid 30 percent until the project reached that same $3500 cap.
Folks at Monday night’s public hearing agreed there needs to be a plan, but many aren’t sure which one.
The council decided to send the proposals back to committee again for more discussion.
The Public Works Committee plans to bring up the topic again at their September 9th meeting.
