A Florida judge has approved a settlement in the case of a man whose obsession with a child genius led him to gun down her mother outside their Montana home.
Deputies shot and killed Thomas Kyros while responding to the January 2011 shooting.
Georgia Smith and her daughter Promethea Pythaitha say in their lawsuit the 81-year-old New Port Richey, Fla., man believed Pythaitha's mother was holding her back.
He drove to Livingston, shot Smith five times and tossed Pythaitha a bag with cash and a document naming her as a beneficiary of a trust fund.
Smith lived. She and her daughter sued Kyros' estate.
On Thursday, Judge Linda Babb of Pasco County approved a settlement. Once the estate is disbursed, attorneys will ask a Montana judge to dismiss the lawsuit.
