Schweitzer leaves office with no regrets
LEWIS AND CLARK COUNTY
Gov. Brian Schweitzer's last official duty was to introduce his successor, Steve Bullock.
Schweitzer's brief introductory speech at Monday's swearing-in ceremony was perhaps one of his shortest.
Schweitzer cast a big shadow over Montana politics during his tenure. But he says his last day in office is not about him, but about the new leaders taking over.
The two-term Democrat said in an interview that he leaves with no regrets. Schweitzer says it is time to move on, and he is ready to leave.
The governor says he plans to use his newfound free time to go "somewhere south" for a vacation.
Then Schweitzer will spend his time at his house on Georgetown Lake, where he jokes the local bar is just a 90-second snowmobile ride away.
